Abstract
Introduction :
The COVID-19 is caused by SARS-COV-2. Currently it has spread throughout the world and become Pandemic. In COVID-19 pneumonia that there are subpleural localized ground glass opacities and numerous irregular areas of consolidation in both lungs and especially in lower lobes. Pneumothorax remains a relatively rare but possible complication, emphasising importance of thorough history taking, clinical examination and management, so we decided to conduct this Study.

Aims and Objective :
To study hospitalised COVID-19 patients who developed pneumothorax during hospitalisation for Demographic data, signs & symptoms, Radiological findings, Management of pneumothorax and Survival. We also observed its Association with pre-existing lung disease, occurrence of pneumothorax in mechanical ventilation and Requirement of surgical intervention.


Material and Methods:
We have done ambidirectional, observational and analytical study in 40 COVID-19 positive patients from September 2020 to June 2021, aged > 18years. Data from the hospital information system was collected , entered in MS excel sheet and analysed with SPSS software.


Results:
Common age group is 41-80 years(82.5%) predominantly male gender (57.5%). Patients had symptoms like Cough(77.5%), Difficulty in breathing(65%), Chest pain(17.5%) and Bodyache(10%) when they developed Pneumothorax and signs like Hypoxia (84.6%), Engorged Neck veins(37.5%) and Decreased chest movements (42.1%). Radiologically 20 patients had right sided and 18 had left sided pneumothorax while 2 patients on both sides.Wide bore needle inserted in 8 patients (20%) and ICD tube in 25 patients (62%). 25% patients could be discharged.

Conclusion:
Pneumothorax is a possible complication of covid-19 disease, so When such patients are presented to an emergency department, early recognition by detailed history taking and clinical examination and immediate intervention will prevent further deterioration and save a person’s life.
